Nottingham City Council:

NOTTINGHAM CASTLE (1998): A series of six reconstructions of various parts and views of the Castle, for use on the site information boards.

West Dorset District Council (selection):

ROMAN DORCHESTER TRAILBOARDS (1996):  A series of trailboards depicting the bathhouses, townhouse, West Gate and amphitheatre of Roman Dorchester.  Archaeologist Peter Woodward.  (Note: although these designs were delivered to and paid for by the WDDC, they have not yet been published.)

Hampshire County Council (selection): 

DANEBURY:  Original reconstructions for the on-site trailboads (believed now replaced); also diorama at Andover Museum of the Iron Age.  (Archaeologist Barry Cunliffe.)

Portsmouth City (selection):

“THREE CITIES” EXHIBITION (1990):  Design and partial construction of exhibition on archaeology of Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester, for exhibition in Duisburg (Germany).  (Collab. John Johnston.)

SOUTHSEA CASTLE:  (1992) Reconstruction paintings and fabrication of full-size replica items for new displays at Southsea Castle.

Southampton City Museums:  JH was employed on a fixed-term contract in the Media Unit of the SCM from 1985-6; he became freelance after this date but continued to work for this Unit for a number of years.  The archaeologist he usually worked with was Mark Brisbane; some others are mentioned below.  There was a wide variety of projects and his input included:

MEDIEVAL GALLERY, GOD’S HOUSE TOWER: a number of reconstruction drawings, maps, plans and other graphics; perspective model of the building of a Medieval town house.  (This was a new gallery.)

SAXON HAMWIC GALLERY, GOD’S HOUSE TOWER:  Reconstruction drawings, maps, plans and other graphics; archaeologist Sharon Pay.  (New gallery; graphics were also published in the Guidebook.)

PREHISTORIC GALLERY, GOD’S HOUSE TOWER MUSEUM: Reconstruction drawings (New gallery)

VIDEO: “MEDIEVAL SOUTHAMPTON”: Creation of a stop-frame animation sequence on the build-up of archaeological strata in urban situations.

BOOKLET “SOUTHAMPTON CASTLE”:  Based on John Oxley’s research, this was a popular publication that I wrote and illustrated for SCM Archaeology Series.
