Trust for Wessex Archaeology: (selection)

(3) Archaeological Fieldwork

1984-1994
Early fieldwork was under supervision, in the capacity of Site Assistant.  Work on all the sites listed has included excavation, compiling site context and other records, photography, drawing plans and sections, surveying and finds processing (washing, marking and sorting).   Sites included:

GREYHOUND YARD, DORCHESTER:  Wessex Archaeology, 1984.  Approx. 6 months.  A complex urban site containing material from Neolithic to C 19th.

THOMAS HARDYE SCHOOL, DORCHESTER:  Wessex Archaeology, 1994.  Approx. 3 months.  Complex of three round barrows, hillside opposite Maiden Castle.

1997-2003

During the period 12/3/00 – 10/5/01 JH was retained by AC Archaeology  as Archaeological Supervisor  (with some periods as Project Officer and Designated Photographer).  This was mainly on watching brief / rescue excavations at Dorchester Old Hospital, an extensive urban Roman site.

Additional watching briefs / excavation sites during 2000 / 2001 / 2002 included Portesham,  Stoke-sub-Hamden, Chicklade, Ilminster, Devizes and Bridport.

JH has undertaken small-scale watching briefs for Bournemouth University, at Bridport (2001) and Iford Manor (2002).
